Re-birth-ing

Re-birth-ing. 2023.

The 2-day performance is with the performer (me) sitting and knitting on broken clothes for 6 hours each day, slowly growing from the garments’ “wounds.” In 12 hours, the garments started to have extensions of knits from the broken parts, like a tree's roots growing, representing the rebirth human beings can have from the broken parts of ourselves.

Ultimately, this performance project is a personal healing process for me to realize that I can and will be reborn after the loss of family members, and the gradual loss of my culture, my roots, and my belongingness. It represents the strength of human beings to grow from traumas and loss.
